Each activity book opens up a new theme – something everyday, something kids and grown-ups often talk about. And through that story, there’s space to explore, to ask questions, to play. Whether it’s printing out quick games, building something together, or even putting on a little play… Kids get to live the tale with all their senses.

FAQs
Whom are they for?
So… what exactly is Once Upon a Time?
It’s a collection of printable digital books inspired by traditional folktales. Inside, you’ll find games, mini theater, simple science and craft projects – all wrapped around a story.
Is it only for kids?
Mostly, yes. But we’ve heard from quite a few parents who said they had just as much fun going through the activities. Some even got more into the crafts than their children did, which… well, we didn’t expect, but it’s great.
What about babies or toddlers? Isn’t that too young?
Not at all. There are simple sensory games, visual patterns, things with rhythm and repetition – the kind of stuff very young kids love and respond to. It’s not about completing anything, really. Just playing and connecting.
And what if my child is older - say, 12 or 13?
That’s totally fine. The more open-ended parts – like story-based projects or making your own play – actually work really well with older kids. They tend to take the lead, imagine bigger worlds, and sometimes even direct the whole thing like a mini production.
What’s actually in the books?
What do I get when I download one?
A short folktale (or sometimes a little story we’ve written), plus:
-
Printable games and puzzles
-
Step-by-step activities using everyday materials
-
Theater prompts for small performances at home
-
Conversation starters on bigger themes
Are these just Bulgarian stories?
Mostly, yes for now. The kind of stories many of us grew up with. But occasionally we include others from around the world if they help spark a useful conversation or idea.
What kind of themes do you explore through the stories?
All the usual tricky stuff that comes up in parenting: independence, honesty, friendship, fairness, courage… Sometimes kids understand these better when they see them happening to a character instead of being talked at directly.
How long do the activities take?
It really depends. Some are quick – like 10, maybe 15 minutes. Others can stretch out, especially if your child gets in the zone and starts adding their own ideas. We’ve seen projects that started small and took over the living room.
Will I need to buy a bunch of stuff to do the projects?
Not really. A printer is helpful, plus basics like scissors, glue, colored pencils. Everything else is usually stuff you already have around the house – cardboard, tape, markers. We try to keep it simple and flexible.
What do kids get out of it?
What kind of learning happens here?
It’s mostly learning-through-doing. Kids don’t even realize they’re picking up things like planning, teamwork, creativity. They just think they’re making something fun. Which, I guess, they are.
Can this help shy kids open up a bit?
Yes, and this one matters to us. Taking on a character can give children the space to say things they might otherwise hold back. It creates this little distance that actually makes them feel safer to share. That’s something we’ve seen more than once.
How does it work?
How do I get the activity books?
After purchase, you’ll get a download link. Everything is digital, so you can print it at home right away.
Can I reuse them?
Absolutely. Once you’ve downloaded the file, it’s yours to keep. You can reprint pages, use them with siblings, or come back to them next year.
Are there physical books too?
Not at the moment. It’s all digital, which actually works out pretty well – no shipping delays, and you can print just what you need.
Are there any discounts?
Yes! If you share the book with a friend and they make a purchase, we’ll send you a free one as a thank-you.
For teachers and educators
Can I use this in my classroom or daycare group?
Yes, and many educators already do. While the books are mostly created with home use in mind, we also offer extra resources for teachers. If that’s something you’re interested in, just leave us an email and we’ll send you more info.
Do you offer discounts for schools or groups?
We do. If you’re a teacher, or if you’re working with a group of kids, just get in touch. We’ll figure something out that works for everyone.
